Definition
Chromic acid is generally used for a mixture containing different compounds, including solid chromium trioxide, made by adding concentrated sulfuric acid to a dichromate.
Chromic acid can be used as a cleaning solution for glass.
Application Area
Chromic acid has been frequently used in the device repair industry due to its property of “polishing” raw brass. Chromic acid immersion leaves a bright yellow patina on brass. Due to increasing health and environmental concerns, the use of this chemical in repair workshops has been discontinued.
In the 1940s, it was used in hair dye under the name Melereon. It is still used as an additive in hair dyes today.
It has been used as a bleaching agent in black-and-white photographic reversal processing.
