Deionized Pure Water

What is Deionized Water (DI Water)?

Deionized water, the ions in the waterions(especiallycalcium, magnesium, sodium, chloride, sulfateandbicarbonate, and other negative and positive ions) is a type of water obtained by removing these ions. This process is carried out using ion exchange resins.

Properties of Deionized Water:

  • Removal of Ions:Deionization ensures the complete removal ofions(positively and negatively charged minerals) from the water. The resulting water typically has lower conductivity than pure water.
  • Electrical Conductivity:Deionized water may have lower electrical conductivity than pure water because ions increase electrical conductivity.
  • pH Value:The pH value of DI water can be slightly acidic (around 5-6) or neutral, unlike pure water, but this depends on the treatment method.
  • Areas of Use:Deionized water is commonly used in laboratories, industrial processes, and applications where the ions in water are important.

Applications of Deionized Water:

  1. Laboratories:Deionized water is used for chemical analyses and some biological studies because dissolved ions or minerals in the water can affect products or test results.
  2. Industrial Applications:Deionized water is widely used in industrial applications, especiallycooling systems, machine cooling waterandchemical production processes.
  3. Medical Applications:Deionized water can be used in somesterilizationprocesses orin cleaning medical devices.
  4. Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Production:The use of deionized water is common in the production of products requiring purity, as minerals and ions can affect product quality.
  5. Automotive and Electronics:Deionized water is used for filling batteries, electronic cleaning, and some tests.
